"To them
God has
chosen
to make
known
among
the
Gentiles
the
glorious
riches
of this
mystery,
which is
Christ
in you,
the hope
of
glory."

1:27 NIV

Song Notes
Many years ago,
soon after
becoming a
Christian, Nick
and I went to a
conference at
which Alex
Buchanan gave a
series of talks
based on
Colossians 1:27:
“….the riches of
the glory of
this
mystery…..which
is Christ in
you, the hope of
glory”.
I remember
thinking at the
time that
although Alex
was obviously
greatly moved by
the wonder of it
all, the full
significance of
the message
remained a bit
of a “mystery”
to me. We
purchased the
tape recordings
of the messages
from those
meetings and
from time to
time over the
years I would
get them out and
listen to them,
always finding
something of
benefit from
doing so, but
without the
truth of the
statement making
any real
difference to my
life.
It was only
when, for the
first time, I
experienced
Jesus, not just
by my side, but
in me (see song
notes for “I'm
Free”) that I
began to
understand what
Alex had seen
all those years
ago. The Bible
talks about our
bodies being “a
temple” (1
Corinthians
3:16) and I
began at last to
believe it –
that God,
through His Holy
Spirit, has
chosen not just
to be alongside
us but to dwell
in us (John
14:16,17 “….the
Spirit of
truth……you know
Him because He
abides with you
and will be in
you”).
I wonder at
Jesus, now
seated in heaven
in glory at the
right hand of
His Father, and
yet loving me so
much that He
wants to make
His home in me
(John 14:23). I
do not fully
understand it,
but I do now
believe it.
Christ is in me,
and it is His
life in me that
makes the
difference –
that gives me
hope, that
sustains me,
that transforms
me into the new
creation He
always intended
me to be.
