I Love You, Lord

I love You Lord, because You never let me go
I love You Lord, because You never leave me
Each passing day I know that You’ll be near to me
You’ve promised, Lord, You never will forsake me
Where could I go from Your presence?
You’re always there by my side
Your love for me is so wonderful
I want You to know - I love You Lord.

I love You Lord, because You know what’s best for me
I love You Lord, Your way is full of blessing
Abundant life You give to those who trust in You
And perfect peace, Your gifts so freely given
How can You love me so deeply?
I know that You have from the start
You care for me O so tenderly
I want You to know Lord, You have my heart

Song Notes

After my first year as a junior doctor in a hospital, I stopped medical work to be a full-time wife and mother to our two young children. I did not really expect to go back to medical work, but in 1996, when our youngest child was in her second year of secondary school, the Lord opened the door for me to begin training for General Practice part-time.

This was a big step of faith for both Nick and I – it was a daunting prospect, and at times I found going to work a very scary experience. I did not know whether I would be able to see it through to the end, but throughout it all I could see the Lord faithfully sustaining me and helping me carry on whenever I felt like giving up.

As a part-time “trainee” I was responsible for arranging all my training posts myself (5 in all). Whilst I was considering what my final hospital post should be, a “chance” meeting led me to being offered a training post in Palliative Medicine at our local Hospice. A few months later I found myself driving to a job that I loved and that was to be a turning point in my career, eventually leading to a more permanent post as a Hospice doctor.

During those initial weeks driving to the Hospice, I marvelled at God’s love for me - how He had led the way, how He had sustained me throughout all the difficult times, and how He was blessing me so much. And during those drives to and from work I began to sing this new song – about the wonder of God’s love for me that led me to love Him in return.                             Sara Horn 2003
