Song Notes
"Cease striving and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10
For years after becoming a Christian, I continued to struggle through the trials of life in my own strength. I prayed regularly for God to help me, and He has always been faithful to answer my prayers and somehow see me through. However, the Lord has been trying to help me get to that place where I stop striving, trust in His strength and let Him make the way straight and smooth for me so that I don’t need to struggle.
This verse from Psalms has spoken to me from time to time, and one day I noticed in the margin of my Bible (NASB) that the alternative translation to “Cease striving” is given as “Let go, relax……” Whilst thinking about this, I realised that this is what God was telling me to do. He knew better than anyone how I felt inside. He knew the pain and frustration that I carried around. He knew the cry of my heart. He knew what I needed. He knew me better than I knew myself and all I needed to do was let go, relax and trust Him to lead the way and see me through. And so this new song was born.
I am learning now that as I look to Him, as I let the burdens go into His hands, He takes the weight of them from me. As I allow His Holy Spirit to take control, the way becomes clear, I know His strength sustaining me and all the glory goes to Him. Sara Horn 2003
