Overflowing
Overflowing with thankfulness to the Lord
Overflowing with thankfulness to the Lord
He is good – and His love endures forever
I will bless His name always
And His mercies never ending
He deserves my deepest praise,
My deepest praise
Lord you are my inspiration
You’re the reason that I live
You will never leave me – or forsake me
With thankfulness my life I give
Overflowing with thankfulness to the Lord
Overflowing with thankfulness to the Lord

"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him,
rooted and built up in him,
strengthened in the faith as you were taught,
and overflowing with thankfulness." Colossians 2:6,7 NIV

Song Notes
My wife and I meet with a number of friends from our church each week and we spend time looking at God’s word and praying together. We tend to use a book or study guide to focus our thoughts each evening and on this occasion we were studying the book of Colossians. We read Colossians 2:7 and I was struck by the last 3 words of the verse, “overflowing with thankfulness”.
Thankfulness is something we often think about as Christians as we are thankful for all that God has done for us in our lives. However, the idea of “overflowing with thankfulness” seemed to me to be more than a quick “thank you” but something that is so strong and passionate within us that it cannot be contained and has to find a way out.
This was particularly helpful to me at the time as I felt under a lot of pressure at work and wasn’t feeling thankful to God for the job that he had given me. I knew that God had provided work for me to do and that a lot of people would be grateful just to have a job to go to – so I started to thank God for my work. It wasn’t easy to do but I found that as I started to thank God, the stress that had been building up started to go away. This doesn’t mean that I have found the answer to all my problems but having a grateful heart definitely helps. Ian Johnson 2003
