Song Notes
I was having a
difficult
morning at work
– the sort of
morning where
everyone is
stressed and it
seems that
everything is
getting out of
control, and I
felt overwhelmed
with it all.
I escaped to my
office, shut the
door and sat
down, with my
back to the door
and my face to
the window. I
knew that
somehow I needed
to find the
peace of God in
this situation.
If I could find
that, everything
else would fall
into the right
perspective in
my mind.
I started to
pray, and then I
started to sing
– “Lord, I need
to find my rest
in You….” - and
over the next
ten minutes or
so, this
prayer-song was
born.
In the Bible,
God is often
described as a
refuge, or a
hiding-place:
“He who dwells
in the shelter
of the Most High
will rest in the
shadow of the
Almighty.
I will say of
the LORD, "He is
my refuge and my
fortress, my
God, in whom I
trust."
Surely he will
save you from
the fowler’s
snare and from
the deadly
pestilence.
He will cover
you with his
feathers, and
under his wings
you will find
refuge; his
faithfulness
will be your
shield and
rampart.”
Psalm
91:1-4 NIV
I love this
picture of God –
like a bird,
sheltering its
young under its
wings – in a
place of warmth,
security and
love. That is
where I want to
be, resting “in
the shadow of
the Almighty”.
