Notes
I
wrote
this
song
on 1
January
2003.
At
the
beginning
of a
New
Year
we
often
look
back
at
our
lives
over
the
past
year
and
promise
ourselves
that
the
next
year
will
be
different
–
last
year
we
tried
and
failed
but
this
year
things
are
going
to
be
better.
Last
year
my
relationship
with
God
wasn’t
as
good
as
it
should
have
been,
I
didn’t
grow
as
much
as I
had
hoped
and
I
wanted
things
to
be
different
the
next
year.
This
song
isn’t
about
whether
I
got
it
right
last
year
or
not,
but
it
is
about
a
faithful
God
who
is
always
there
for
us.
We
might
have
made
a
mess
of
things
but
he’s
always
ready
to
forgive
us,
wipe
the
slate
clean
and
let
us
start
all
over
again
as
if
we’d
never
gone
wrong
in
the
first
place.
It
doesn’t
have
to
be
New
Year’s
Day;
any
time
we
turn
to
God,
whether
it’s
for
the
first
time
or
the
hundredth
time,
he
always
welcomes
us
back
with
open
arms
and
is
willing
to
forget
the
past.
“But
while
he
was
still
a
long
way
off,
his
father
saw
him
and
was
filled
with
compassion
for
him;
he
ran
to
his
son,
threw
his
arms
around
him
and
kissed
him.”

15:20 NIV
