You are the One
You are the One, Heaven’s only Son
The everlasting God, You reign on high.
I lift my voice to You and I worship You, most holy God,
The earth is filled with Your splendour now
All Heaven singing Your praise
The angels dance and shout aloud
“The Lord God reigns!”
You saved my soul, You made me whole
You’ve given me new life and I just want to praise You
I just want to praise You.
You are the One, Heaven’s only Son
You came to earth for me, to live and die, to set me free
And I’ll thank You for eternity, just want to praise You
I just want to praise You.

Song Notes
On 14th November 2001 I was putting my daughter, India, to bed as usual. We normally have a bit of a chat before she goes to sleep and that night was no exception. We often talk about her day at school and sometimes about God or church and on this occasion she started to ask about what it meant to be a Christian.
My wife, Jacqui, and I have always been open with our children about what we believe but wanted very much for them to decide for themselves whether they wanted Jesus to be the Lord of their lives without any pressure from us.
As I explained what it meant to be a Christian, India, without any prompting from me, said that she wanted to become a Christian. Now that she had brought the subject up I did not hesitate to pray with her and there and then she invited Jesus in to be a part of her life. I was incredibly excited that she had given her life to the Lord and I explained how all the angels in heaven were shouting for joy and having a party (Luke 15:10).
After I had taken India downstairs to share this with Jacqui and eventually got her back to bed, I sat down on my own in our dining room and thought about what had happened. My excitement wasn’t going away and I really felt the desire to worship God so I picked up my guitar. As I began to express my worship, I started to write some lyrics, composing a melody as I went along. Within half an hour, You Are the One had been written. Ian Johnson 2003
